CPCS Tests

CPCS is widely recognised in the UK as the preferred card scheme to comply with the codes of practice for competence and certification. CPCS was launched in 2003 to help employers comply with regulations and aims to apply common standards for all plant operators.

CPCS has a number of core elements which are used to demonstrate skill and proof of competence

  • Training - through a variety of channels
  • Health, safety and environment - health, safety and environment awareness
  • CPCS Theory Test - underpinning knowledge and understanding
  • CPCS Practical Test - operating ability
  • SVQ and NVQ - operating competence vocational qualification
  • Logbook - on-going operating ability
  • On-Site Assessment - on-going operating ability
  • CPCS Renewal Test - up-to-date knowledge and understanding

At Cathedral Training we aim to put our candidates at ease before taking a CPCS test as we understand that this can be a stressful time for candidates. Once a candidate has completed the desired amount of training the CPCS test itself will comprise of the following.

A theory test will be completed orally by the candidate in a relaxed informal environment. The candidate will be asked the questions by the CPCS tester and then will answer accordingly, the entire theory test will be recorded on a MP3 player.

At this stage the candidate will be told if they have achieved the theory element of the CPCS test. On successful completion of the theory test the candidate will be taken outside to our purpose built training area and the practical test will be completed.

If the candidate achieves their practical test they will leave Cathedral Training with an Achievement Letter and we will then apply for their Red Card and this will be sent out to the candidate.
